COUNSELLING BLOG: Overdependency in Relationships → onlinecounsellingcollege.tumblr.com

onlinecounsellingcollege:

Overdependency is:

·  Desperately holding on to other people, places or things in an attempt to find meaning and purpose in your life.

·  Letting others do so much for you that it prevents you from developing your own sense of personal autonomy, independence, responsibility and accountability.

·  Being unwilling to let go of others so that you can find your own direction in life.

·  Refusing to formulate your own goals and dreams in case they don’t match those of the people you are dependent on.

·  Having a feeling of emptiness and worthlessness; feeling you “need to be needed” in order to be loved; or having your whole identity wrapped up in someone else.

·  Thinking sympathy and pity are the same thing as love.

·  Having a desperate need for approval; desperately fearing rejection and abandonment by the person you are dependent on; being clingy, possessive and jealous.

·  Lacking a belief in your own competency and ability to cope on your own.

·  Feeling stuck and immobilised because of a fear of failure, or the fear of making the wrong decision.

·  Having a fear of loneliness – which causes you to cling desperately to someone – even when you should let them go.

Overdependency is a control issue because:

·  You are handing control of your life and happiness over to someone else.

•A woman in Utah gave birth to twins. When one was stillborn, she was arrested and charged with criminal homicide based on the claim that her decision to delay cesarean surgery was the cause of the stillbirth.

•After a hearing that lasted less than a day, a court issued an order requiring a critically-ill pregnant woman in Washington, D.C. to undergo cesarean surgery over her objections. Neither she nor her baby survived.

•A judge in Ohio kept a woman imprisoned to prevent her from having an abortion.

•A woman in Oregon who did not comply with a doctor’s recommendation to have additional testing for gestational diabetes was subjected to involuntary civil commitment. During her detention, the additional testing was never performed.

•A Louisiana woman was charged with murder and spent approximately a year in jail before her counsel was able to show that what was deemed a murder of a fetus or newborn was actually a miscarriage that resulted from medication given to her by a health care provider.

•In Texas, a pregnant woman who sometimes smoked marijuana to ease nausea and boost her appetite gave birth to healthy twins. She was arrested for delivery of a controlled substance to a minor.

•A doctor in Wisconsin had concerns about a woman’s plans to have her birth attended by a midwife. As a result, a civil court order of protective custody for the woman’s fetus was obtained. The order authorized the sheriff’s department to take the woman into custody, transport her to a hospital, and subject her to involuntary testing and medical treatment.

Who could have seen this coming?

Reblogging as a reminder.

This what happens when women are seen as a means of production.

These stories are important and still make me sick to my stomach.

This is why when pro-lifers whine that it’s just their ~opinion~ you should probably eat their face

Devi Raheja: Hey blueberries, i"m back <333: Thoughts on trauma, representation, and choosing to show up → deviraheja.tumblr.com

Hey y’all its me. I know I haven’t updated this really in over a year. I wanted to, I just couldn’t, for reasons of not being ready to have a public voice. It’s hard when you are born into advocacy, there is often not time to make boundaries and claim agency in the struggle. If your trans you get…

Hey y’all please consider checking out my other blog. I’m still making changes, but longstory short: I’ve been really depressed. I’m having lots of problems mostly revolving around feeling isolated not just around my family and in the workplace but also in the most radical parts of my community. I feel like this is happening because I do not share identity with anyone in my immediate community and its just very difficult. I am fat, brown, queerbodied , poly, femme transmasculine.

I want to be clear. I have an incredible community around me, and I know that this loneliness I am expierancing is typical. It is a crisis of an existential nature that almost all of us feel, there are so many expierances and ways of being that are isolating, so many wrong narratives that we are forced to live by….

I don’t think my loneliness is any more real or important than anyone elses, I’m just tired y’all. I feel like there are so many expierances that I am isolated in, and often those are the areas where I need the most advice.

whatever, this longshort just got really long. I’m just trying to show up more/better, and I’m trying to more actively communicate my expierance and so I’m going to try and committ to a post a day, please consider checking it out +++
